Better have good heavy duty tires. We had 2 flats on the back within 2 miles, Sitting at tire shop waiting to see what damage is done. I was really looking forward to this scenic drive. Full review by Excursion189336

We were very fortunate and saw 5-6 different herds of horses within an hour, several herds of mares, colts and phillies and a herd of stallions. We saw around 40 horses in total and all from the mai… Full review by VacationsRWanderful

DO NOT GO. We went in July 2024. We had a toyota highlander suv. The roads are all gravel and dirt. Lots of big rocks. Its a 24 mile drive. Some buttes but not really scenic for Wyoming. Better place… Full review by Edward P
Is it an actual loop so you end up back where you started? And is there a place to drop a trailer so you can enjoy the drive? How about nearby camping?
A:
This drive goes from the north end of RS to GR. It is not that long maybe an hour or two depending on stops.
I see answers that say the south route from the scenic loops to Green River is a steep and scary ride. We will be there in 1st Week of January and would like to know suggestions for how to go to the loop and how to exit to return to Green River or Rock Springs which is where we are staying? We are coming in from Laramie. All ideas appreciated! Thanks
We will be there in Early January and wonder if the wild horses are roaming around in the scenic loop at this time of year? Any direction on this would ge greatly appreciated! TYIA

There will be horses, but the road may or may not be passable. . F4om the Wild Horse Brochure: Precautions: When embarking on the Pilot Butte Wild Horse Scenic Loop Tour, keep in mind that the roads are graveled and are maintained only from May through October of each year. High-clearance vehicles are recommended and weather conditions can and do change very quickly making it imperative to be prepared at all times. Be certain to begin the tour with: • Full tank of gas • Spare tire • Cell phone • Binoculars There are no services along the route and cell phone reception may be limited. It is always advisable to inform someone of your destination and planned time of return.
Will any wild horses be seen in the winter months at Pilot Butte Wild Horse Scenic Loop?
A:
In mild winters the horses might be near the loop. If we get a lot of snow the road can be impassible for even 4 wheel drives. It is not maintained in the winter. Should be good until mid …

Everyone reports that they start the loop from the North/East, off 191. Is it one-way, or can we start from the West, at Green River and drive East/North? We're thinking to only drive part of the route, and from most reviews, it sounds like the Green River end has less ruts for a low-riding sedan like ours. Thanks for any suggestions!
A:
You are right. It is not a one way loop. It is a graveled county road. The Green River end is the better maintained part and I think usually has the most horses.
