Wolverine Lake is a village in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,312 at the 2010 census. The village is located within Commerce Township. Before 1918, Howard Stuart and L. A. Green proposed the idea of damming several small streams in order to create a larger lake. The project was completed in March 1923, and the growing community was petitioned to be named Wolverine Lake by the end of the year. The name was chosen after the wolverine, which is the state animal. Wolverine Lake incorporated as a village in 1954.
