Even with what I consider to be the most flavorful beer tagged as a “light beer,” Samuel Adams Light, which has 124 calories per 12-ounce serving, it’s still only 36 calories less than Samuel Adams Boston Lager. So the answer to your question is a big NO.

I don't know how many different styles are listed on the BA styles page, but for a new guy, to keep from being overwhelmed, I'll recommend that you concentrate on IPAs, Pale Ales, Porters, Stouts (including Imperial Stouts), and Pilsners (or in general, light lagers which is a general description that includes Pilsners).

Dec 14, 2011 · The term Scotch Ale became essentially a marketing term. William Younger of Edinburgh sold his No 1 Ale as Strong Ale in Scotland, Scotch Ale in England and Barley Wine in Ireland. Belgium became an important market for Scotch Ale, with Belgian bottlers commissioning brews from Scottish (and English) breweries. This is the best known style today.

Apr 25, 2016 · Generally speaking I would say a beer named a session ipa would sell more than a pale ale, but what matters most is that the damn beer is good. Two examples that come to mind are Treehouse Erueka (4% blonde ale) and Nightshift Whirpool (4.5% pale ale), which are both essentially session ales/session ipas.

Oct 14, 2005 · Bitters are all types of Pale Ale. Pale Ale is what the brewery would call the beer, Bitter what drinkers would order in the pub. That's why the same beer would be called Bitter when on draught and Pale Ale when bottled. In the Good Beer Guides from the late 1970's and early 1980's, a large number of Bitters are listed as PA, the brewhouse name.
