The BTR-ZD is instead the anti-aircraft version of the BTR-D. It is equipped with a ZU-23-2 twin 23mm anti-aircraft gun positioned on top of its hull. Furthermore, if necessary, it can mount two SA-14 Gremin anti-aircraft missile launchers equipped with internal or external racks.

Based on the BTR-D chassis derived from VDV's BMD-1, the BTR-ZD offers devastating twin 23 mm autocannons with good accuracy and rate of fire, as well as being mobile; while having the bare minimal survivability for the crew.

BTR-ZD 23mm AA Platoon. Versatile and small, the BTR-ZD may be one of my favourite iterations of Soviet SPAA yet. While the main cannon will find difficulties fighting anything faster than a helicopter thanks to its manual tracking, its high rate of fire and AT value of 6 will see me gleefully using it to chase down M113s and other light vehicles.

When you get the BTR-ZD and realize that it is just a towed 23mm AA gun LITERALLY STRAPPED to the roof of an Airborne APC, Clampett style. It's so aggressively Russian that it comes complete with wood stumps as leveling spacers.

Aug 16, 2022 · Like the R3T20, but the BTR-ZD is just a bit better against planes. High ROF, High Velocity, and cannons that hit hard, you only need to hit once or twice to bring down a plane. To be simple it's a SPAA meant for facing Jets at a BR where it faces mid-late war props.
