Nov 23, 2009 · A. digitata from mainland Africa is probably the hardiest and most common. There are 8 species; 1 from Africa, 1 from NW Australia and 6 native to Madagascar. A digitata is a zone 9b/10a tree so you should be able to grow it just fine. There is a nice specimen of A. madagascariensis at Selby Gardens in Sarasota;

The hyena was given the baobab and planted it upside down. During the dry season, when the tree has no leaves, it looks just like it is upside down with roots up in the air.

On our recent trip to Madagascar, Kim and I visited Morondava on the west coast, and spent a good amount of time a bit inland from Morondava, enjoying the incredible sight of hundreds and hundreds of baobab trees sprinkled all over a large area there.

Jun 23, 2013 · Its an Adansonia grandieri BTW (Baobab tree). Also trying Schizolobium parahyba with its thick seed coat. Should I use hydrogen peroxide, nip with a nail cutter, soak longer to scarify the shell/seed coat? Im also trying to germinate Ravenala/travelers tree and Acacia tortilis. Anyone experience with these?? Greatly appreciated. Ritchy
