The Cave Buttes Dam is an earthen dam located near Cave Creek, Arizona. As a dry dam, it is the primary dam to prevent flooding in North Phoenix. Built in 1979 to replace the nearby Cave Creek Dam, it is designed to prevent flooding in the city from the Cave Creek Wash. [1]

Constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the dam and dike system has provided flood protection for downstream properties in the Phoenix metro area since 1980.

Apr 9, 2023 · A special sight in any cave are the strange and one-of-a-kind formations known as speleothems! Some places within the Mammoth Cave abound in wonderful formations not to be missed. In wetter areas these may be calcite formations like stalactites and stalagmites.

It’s approximately a half mile hike to Dames Cave on a well traveled trail. Lots of other trails through the forest as well. You will also find Peace Cave about a quarter mile north. Great way to spend some time in nature with a prize at the end. Caves in Florida! Highly recommended!

Jun 16, 2002 · Dam #4 cave (also called Bear Cave) is an impressive-looking cave with a large, obvious, "Hollywood" entrance (left). In wet weather a stream emerges from the cave. The total passage length is a few hundred feet and a bear could easily be hiding in any corner of it!

Rimstone, also called gours, is a type of speleothem (cave formation) in the form of a stone dam. Rimstone is made up of calcite and other minerals that build up in cave pools. The formation created, which looks like stairs, often extends into flowstone above or below the original rimstone.
