East Texas encompasses four national forests, covering a total of 637,386 acres. Map courtesy of USDA Forest Service. Like a bright beacon in the deep woods, the white flowers of the dogwood tree are a familiar sight during early spring in East Texas.
Texas Forest Service in conjunction with the USDA Forest Service annually measures 20% of all plots established in East Texas. Variables include total height, diameter, volume, biomass, etc. All FIA plots in East Texas are measured over a 5‐year period.

We love gardening, and landscaping, and East Texas is a great place for that pasttime! Our interests include not only common flower varieties such as Pansies, Begonias, Irises, Daffodils, Impatiens and Zinnias, but also wildflowers and ferns.
Texas Forest Trail – We Pine For East Texas
The Texas Forest Trail Region is a 35 county area of East Texas and one of 10 designated heritage tourism regions in the State of Texas. Our purpose is to foster economic development by preserving and promoting Texas’ unique history and culture.
Texas A&M Forest Service works in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service to inventory forestlands in East Texas. This joint effort is known as Forest Inventory and Analysis or FIA. Every year highly-trained foresters and technicians measure plots throughout the region.

Forests of the East Texas. East Texas covers approximately 22.4 million acres. Most of the region is part of the coastal plain physiographic province, and the forests found here are not too dissimilar from those that are found along the coast all the way to North Florida and the Carolinas.
