Pictures and information on the three basic bayonet types used with the FN-FAL assault rifle. The 7.62 mm. NATO caliber Fabrique Nationale de Herstal - Fusil Automatique Leger (Light Automatic Rifle), or FN-FAL was produced by FN beginning in 1953.

Socket-type bayonet for the FN/FAL rifle. Hollow steel handle has vents to line up with flash hider slots. Uniquely shaped blade had flat top and rounded bottom.

Belgium—FAL Type C Bayonet Made by Casting. This is believed to be the final Fabrique Nationale production type (ca. 1977–88), as FN sought to reduce cost of the FAL product. FN constructed the socket by forging upper and lower halves using a drop hammer.

The bayonet is in excellent condition with correct ribbed plastic grips and distinctive locking catch on the pommel. It has a 7 ¾” long polished steel blade and measures 12 ¾” overall. The pommel and scabbard have non matching numbers but are 4 numbers out (see pictures).

The FN FAL bayonet for the FN FAL L1A1 7.62×51 light automatic rifle has the distinguished two prongs that fit on the rifle’s flash hider and the blade profile is a variation of the U.S. M4 bayonet design.
