The EMD GP38 [1] is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between January 1966 and December 1971. The locomotive's prime mover was an EMD 645 16- cylinder engine that generated 2,000 horsepower (1.49 MW).

Start the shell modifications by removing unwanted detail (other than the cab and long hood end). I shaved off all the detail on the pilots, the lift rings, and the curved grab around the rear fan on the roof.

The EMD GP38 was introduced in 1966 by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors (GM) as its newest diesel-electric unit. Production spanned from January 1966 into 1971 to the tune of 706 total examples which have been operated across North America for its time.

Sets include formed wire grab irons and brass detail castings such as radio antennas, MU hoses and more to fit the units shown (locos sold separately)

This was a non-turbocharged locomotive, similar in appearance to the earlier GP35. The GP38 had two radiator fans and paired exhaust stacks. The GP38 was longer than the GP35 and featured a new style radiator grille and a straighter sill and redesigned fuel tank.
