May 5, 2021 · It costs money to host the site. Storage, bandwidth and CDNs are not free. Neither are dealing with overhead, legal, and regulatory issues and crop up hosting site. Not involving legal threats, there’s upkeep that involves managing a site this size. Video landscape is a lot different than it was when liveleak started.

There's ads literally everywhere on liveleak, it was a top 500 site too, just poorly managed. Making people register before being able to read comments is also proven to be a backwards way to increase engagement. As in, you get the opposite result. NOBODY signs up to see what the comments are, people sign up to reply to comments though.

The type of videos that were the exact reason why people still visited LiveLeak would inexplicably fail to load or play, and other severe bugs basically made LiveLeak unusable for the final year of its lifespan.
