Dating from 1915, the Officers' mess at Redford and its associated stables is amongst the largest buildings of its type in Scotland and are key buildings in a complex of infantry and cavalry buildings which make up the extensive Redford barracks.

Redford infantry barracks was built to alleviate cramped military accommodation at Edinburgh Castle.
