plein air and Impressionism….same or different???
Oct 3, 2004 · Hi to all plein air’ists, I am sorry this this question causes you to get a little pived, but after studying (basic) Impressionism….I was wondering if it was derived from plein air (I know it came first), and then evolved from that. Why do en plein air painters wear those hats?
Dec 2, 2014 · On another thread recently I was ranting and complained about plein air painters with their Tilley (brand name) hats. The irony is that I own one. I mostly wear it as rain gear out on our small farm. When I paint plein air I usually wear a baseball cap. It’s looks more normal. I want to blend in or at least be as inconspicuous as possible.

Brushes for small plein air paintings
Jul 25, 2005 · Puck – on my 6×8 panels (plein air) I use at least a 1/2″ brush, mostly bristle flats so the brush has a lot of spring. I go up to about a 3/4″ brush for an 8×10. I use the same sizes in synthetic brights or flats if I’m doing architecture and need sharp edges.
